A recent study by CA Technologies has revealed interesting findings about the position of DevOps and Agile in the UK and how it is critical to successful digital transformation.
CA Technologies, formerly known as Computer Associates International, Inc. and CA, Inc., is an American multinational publicly held corporation headquartered in New York City. They create software that “fuels transformation for companies and enables them to seize the opportunities of the application economy”.
The company questioned 695 European IT executives about how they’re using agile and DevOps and the impact it’s having on their business. The process has revealed some truly interesting figures that show just how crucial agile and DevOps are to the UK. The most noteworthy figures from the report that you’ll want to know are below:
- Agile development and DevOps is improving 67 per cent of UK organisations’ customer experiences
- 83 per cent of the UK believes agile and DevOps are “critical to successful digital transformation
- 8 per cent report an increase in business growth from “new revenue sources” brought about by adopting agile and DevOps practices
- Employee productivity is boosted by 42 per cent with DevOps
- Operational efficiency with agile specifically increases by 35 per cent
“In the application economy brands are defined by the unique, and constantly evolving, digital experiences offered to customers,” Ritu Mahandru, VP of solution sales, CA Technologies said. “To succeed, UK organisations need to be ‘built to change’ – putting software at the centre of everything they do, and changing the way they plan, develop and release applications and products.”
“Agile methodologies add the voice of the customer to the development cycle early and often, and enable ongoing product iterations based on continuous feedback. DevOps practices promote collaboration between development and operations, to improve the speed and quality of application and product delivery. As this study shows, DevOps and agile are a powerful combination for better business outcomes,” Mahandru said.
CA Technologies has revealed senior business executives know agile and DevOps are essential to successful digital transformation, yet the UK lags behind the rest of Europe when it comes to using such methods. According to the report “UK companies lack the maturity of businesses in other European countries. For example, only 29% of UK companies are in the advanced stage of using agile methods, compared with 36% in Italy, and 33% in Germany, Spain and France. Similarly, only 32% UK companies are in the advanced stages of using DevOps, compared with 40% in Germany, 39% in France, and 33% in Sweden”.
We believe that this study shows great promise for these methods in the UK but it also demonstrates that businesses need to adapt to keep up with the rest of Europe.<-- Return to Blog
